Leviticus 20:13 states:
“If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."
There it is, clealry stated. In first 5 books of th Old Testament forming the Torah meaning the Law.
I guess i should not say what i'm thinking because then i would be like insulting Jewish people... But i think Jesus in the New Testament sort of clears that statment up already by just being Jesus and leading a life of love and acceptance.
What about Jewish Gay people???...Hmmm....Well,GOD LOVES THEM TOO :-D.
The Torah like the Bible share the same first 5 books.
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy comprising what we know as the past or the history books. The Torah to be honest is more like a history/law book. The Bible is like that too and leads on to stories of Jesus who wanted us to all live good lives. See the wikipedia debate.
I do AKC which means i study the Bible and Philosophy as a separate course along with my degree. It is the first and oldest degree in my university. I really enjoy it. At the moment we are learning how the Bible has been put together to become what it is today.
The Bible is misinterpreted...constantly.
I'm sometimes ashamed to be Baptist because it seems to me that the most crazy-evangelical people are Baptist ! My pastor in Belgium is from Kansas and is very Baptist. I really want to be Baptised because i think i'm ready now but i can't do it my church because i know that my pastor does not agree with what i believe in. At one time he said all Muslim people were going to hell. I would i have stood up and walked out but to respect my mother i did not. I thought to write this when i came across Black Sissy 's Blog about how he stood up in Chruch and told everyone off and that God Loves Fags ! READ IT !!!
Jesus loved everyone. He dined with sinners, people who were considers outcasts of his society at the time and he shared the good news of God with everyone, not just the Isrealites but also the Gentiles (A Gentile is a non-isrealite). The thing is i am so shocked that Christians do not see that !!!!
Watch this Baptist family say that all Homoexuals are going to hell on the Tyra's Show.
I'll admit i think Tyra is a bit of a bitch and thinks she is always right, but this topic is interesting.
When i heard/watched the first part of this i thought: Hmmm, so i guess to her and her family and her church, they all believe that people in Africa who suffer from HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis etc must have brought it on themselves. This tragedy is Gods Judgement ?
The most used bible verse and probably my FAVORITE is:
"Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone"-Jesus said this.
These people must ask themselves: What Would Jesus Do???
He did not use violence. There was only one time he was ever angry recorded in the bible. He did not use physical words of abuse to taunt people. He would not be standing with these people infront of funerals screaming at mothers who had just lost their sons at war. In fact, he would probably be causing trouble ! And the worlds religious leaders would be against him ! :-) Jesus was a rebel, a sort of buddha/ghandi like rebel. Very peaceful. God made everyone and loves everyone. and i MEAN EVERYONE...even Hitler. Hitler was a self-hating freak ! But still. My point is the answer to change is love. Love is change stop fighting. Ergh !
Fundamentalism is BAAAAD.
I also think that this is scary:
Oh LORD :-) Some people !!!

To start off, I found both of those videos disturbing. The Phelps family are, I hear, notorious for their strong views. They started up their own 'church' but most of the congregation are members of the family itself. The second video was disgusting. That any parent could will to fill their child with hatred is beyond me. Their blind ignorance is astounding.
Re: homosexuals, I have not much experience of Baptist Christianity, but can offer the Catholic perspective; which is the same in that God loves all people. But there is a difference between loving, and condoning what is sinful. You correctly say that Jesus loved and ate with sinners, but, importantly, He did NOT condone or disregard their sin, and it was through their encounters with Him, that they changed their ways. Surely this was His purpose for seeking them out?
We should not condemn others, since we all have our faults. And as Christians, we should treat everyone with the same love and respect that Jesus himself showed. But this doesn't mean we have to embrace the sin. Some may disagree with me, but this is how I see it. Nice post Esu.
'Love the sinner, hate the sin.'
Yo Russell ...Thank you :-)
My Dad is Catholic and i studied catholicsm at school :-) i just happened to follow my Mama's religion cause she's my Mama and went to church with me a lot.
Catholics and Baptists are the same, we are all christians :-P
I do disagree with you a bit. The way i see it you do not choose to be gay, the same way people do not choose to be black, white, yellow, brown, have red hair, disabled or have downs syndrome when they are born.
If people chose to be gay. Gay Christians would choose to be straight but they cannot be ! That is why some commit suicide because they try so hard to change...but they can't !!
I could never live my life knowing that i was not truely being myself and not with someone i loved. Living a lie. Ouch.
Thanks for your response: I wasn't totally clear.
I don't think people necessarily choose to be gay either, and I agree that it can be a great struggle for some. I do not think the inclinations to homosexuality are wrong (feelings etc.), only the physical acts.
The physical act ? Oh Dear, nvm i guess we can differ. :-)
As i said before i could not live a lie and hell, if i loved someone i would want to jump om them too, it's animal instinct and YES there are homosexual animals.
xxx
I've been baptized like three times. Isn't that just horrible. The first time when I was a baby, the next couple of times I did it with friends at church so they wouldn't have to do it alone.

I would hope that if there is a God, he would love everyone one. After all, didn't Jesus die for our sins and none of us are sin free, right?
omg the vids really ARE disturbing. the father in the second vid looks totally psycho too! scary people out there :(
*is shocked at the videos*
Video 1 : I just... can't believe it.
I mean, I don't know much about religion, but I do know that God loves everyone. And if He did make us all as we are, then why would he make people who a) are gay, or "fags" as that women so nicely says, b) rapists, pedophiles etc, and c) make people who have so much hatred against others.
I thought He loved everyone, so why does mrs phelps hate so much.
If homosexuality was a choice, some people wouldn't be gay, I mean why would you chose to be hated and/or discriminated against. I mean, it would probably be a lot easier for me were I straight.
and the second video, I.. HOW could people be like that??? I mean, if people are racist, fine, they are allowed to be. But teaching their kids that?
My brother is sort of racist and I hate it. I just cannot understand how people can hate other people who a) are different in ways they cannot control b) they've never met before.
for all mentioned in the videos, i just see narrow minded angry people, who go on tv and spend time with people with similar views just as a means so that they think they are right, so that they don't feel out numbered, and if they go and preach and talk about their views and cause arguments, it gives them a feeling that they are right, that they are superior as it were because they have seen and believe the correct things and others don't.
*is angry at such people*
